Homolovi Ruins State Park

If you want to see some of the finest archeological sites in the US, the Homolovi Ruins State Park is among the best places to come. Located in the state of Arizona, this park is where you will find ruins of important pueblo sites that were home to the Anasazi tribe from 1200 to 1425 A.D.

Homolovi ruins are present all over the southeast, but here in Arizona are present some of the most important ones. There was a tribe in the 14th century and that tribe was known as the Hisat'sinom or the Anasazi. They were migrating to the flood plains and on their journey they stopped over in this part of Arizona making it their home. Much later their homes were plundered by other tribes and then by the Europeans, and so the Anasazi moved on.

Even today if you were to visit these sites you will find their broken homes, stones and pottery scattered all over the place. To preserve the rich heritage of the Homolovi, the major sites and the ruins have now been brought under the Homolovi Ruins State Park. Opened in 1993, the park is now a major center of archeological research in the state of Arizona.

There is a visitor center and a museum where you can get information on the Homolovi and their lifestyle. There are quite a few trails for you to explore and a few camping grounds as well within the park. However do remember that removal of any artifact or rock art from the ruins is punishable by law as these items are important to the Anasazi people. The park is also a great place to see some wildlife.
