Verde Canyon Railroad

Gone are the days when the Verde Canyon Railroad was something that only the residents of Arizona used to cheer. The world has discovered the exceptional beauty of this rail journey and so people from near and far come here to enjoy rides on the Verde Canyon Railroad.

The Verde Canyon Railroad was constructed way back in 1912 to bring back copper from the mines at Jerome in Arizona. However, the railroad was taken over by the Durbano Family and the family has been running it from 1990 onwards. Passenger services have also been started now. Originally built at a staggering cost of $1.3 millions, the railroad is considered as an engineering marvel.

And today, this train journey in the state of Arizona remains among the most memorable ones. You will be traveling through two of the most scenic national forests, canyons, valleys and the Verde River. Pass through a number of tunnels including a 680-foot tunnel that has been man-made and ride over beautifully constructed bridges. Check out the unique rock formations, waterfowl, and ruins of the Sinagua Indians. The SOB Canyon which is a gorge that is 175 ft deep is sure to take your breath away.

Board the train at 300 North Broadway in Clarkdale – located just 25 minutes from Sedona. From Phoenix it will take you 2 hours to reach Clarkdale.

You can go on this 4 hour journey through the canyons, valley and the Verde River year round, but the schedules do change based on the season. The sound system in the rail journey provides narration to ensure that you do not miss out on the attractions.
