Oak Creek Canyon
The Oak Creek Canyon is located south of Flagstaff on state RT 89 A. The canyon is much smaller than the Grand Canyon, which is more popular. However the area is renowned for its bewitching switchbacks and is scattered with colorful spectacular rock formations. Located within the Coconino National Forest, it is a must see in Arizona.
A stopover at the Canyon Vista is a must before you venture into the canyon area. From here you can actually get a glimpse of what splendors await you ahead. Though this is a bit early in your journey, but this is also a good place to shop for souvenirs from Native American artists who sell handcrafted products along the roadside.
Drive down the serpentine roads through the marvelously scenic switchbacks. There are several pools and picnic spots where you can laze around and munch onto a nice picnic lunch. Opt for one of the several hiking trails and halt at numerous overlooks to derive heavenly pleasure from the scenic surroundings of the Oak Creek Canyon in AZ.
To enjoy more of this blissful environment, you can follow the road past Sedona and drive through the Red Rock Country. Along the road, you will come across some of the most beautiful natural sculptures. The more popular rock formations are the Steam Boat Rock, Courthouse Butte and the Bell Rock.
The scenic route stretches for 88 miles and is a most enthralling experience for nature lovers. The roads are smooth and paved and hence driving on them is a pleasant experience except after winter storms when they become slippery. The splendid ambience of the Old Creek lures tourists, most of whom make it a point to revisit the Oak Creek Canyon.
