Mogollon Rim

Mogollon Rim in the Coconino National Forest is a rugged rock escarpment that is flanked on the Southern end of the Colorado Plateau. The Mogollon Rim provides a breathtaking panoramic view of both the Desert Canyon region and the Plateau Country. You are sure to see some rare wildlife on a visit to the Mogollon Rim. The fascinating scenery stretches from the escarpment to the Mazatzals lying northeast of Phoenix.

There are several wonderful trails crisscrossing the scenic countryside. And some of them take hikers through the dense forests to serene lakes that are nestled between mountains and in valleys. Actually there are quite a few stunningly beautiful lakes where you can also indulge in boating and fishing. Then there are those trails that lead tourists to the imposing rock formations and ancient fossils of long-extinct animals.

Here are some of the more popular trails – the Arizona Trail, the Babe Haught Trail, the Barbershop Trail and the Willow crossing Trail. If you are planning to go hiking then do keep in mind that some of these trails are extremely steep and difficult. So opt for them only if you have some experience.

Camping in this part of Arizona is another fascinating experience. There are several campgrounds that let tourists enjoy the surrounding natural wonders. One good way of reaching the depths of the land is on horseback. Or you can also drive through the wilderness on the Rim Road and the Crook Trail Loop.
