Midgley Bridge

The Midgley Bridge is a quaint bridge that is located near the town of Sedona in Arizona. A drive down highway 89 A for about 1.4 miles from uptown Sedona will take you to this pretty bridge overlooking the meandering Oak Creek River. The bridge is so popular that parking your vehicle may be a problem here.

First visit the beautiful Midgley Bridge and then take the Stairs that descend to the Oak Creek River Bed. Or you can also hike down the Huckaby Trail. The trail begins with a relatively easy hike for 1/8 mile then it descents steeply crossing the Bear Wallow Wash. This descend continues for another half a mile, after which the trail cuts across a ridge.

This is from where you will get a spectacular view of the winding Oak Creek River through the treacherous, rugged cliffs.

The trail passes through majestic topographical features like the Mitten Ridge and the Wilson Mountain. The ridge then further descends down to the flood plains of the Oak Creek River. The trail then crosses a branch of the Oak Creek River.

But do keep in mind that if you are planning to cross over, then quite a bit of boulder hopping will be required. And you must never cross the river when the water is too high. The trail reaches the other end of the Midgley Bridge.

The area is extremely hot during the summer months and at this time this 2.6 mile one way stretch becomes extremely strenuous. Hikers must carry sunscreen, water and snacks along with them. And always wear proper hiking shoes and hats.
