Chapel of the Holy Cross

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is an enigmatic structure that is located at Sedona in Arizona. The Chapel has been designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Marguerite Brunswig Staude. This compelling landmark was completed in 1956. The area is easily accessible from uptown Sedona.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is built in a way that it appears to be curved out of the surrounding sandstone rocks. The towering cross of this mega structure amidst the imposing red rocks and stunning buttes embedded in the fascinating valley creates an aura of heavenly bliss in this arid and rugged terrain of the mystical Colorado River Basin.

The Chapel in Arizona is thronged by hundreds of tourists every year, who come here to view this unique rectangular structure and to witness a splendid human creation amidst nature's bountiful delights. This impressive structure remains open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. However the Chapel remains closed on certain days like Thanksgiving, Good Friday, Easter and Christmas.

To reach this place from uptown Sedona take highway 179 and then turn to Chapel Road and follow this road to its end. You may want to hire a guide while you are visiting the Chapel. There is a parking lot further up the hillock where you can keep your vehicle. The climb to the structure is steep and so come in comfortable shoes.

There is a souvenir shop within the premises selling religious articles, crosses and rosaries made of native stones. The shop is worth a visit. The Chapel belongs to the Roman Catholic diocese of Phoenix and special church services are held every Monday evening.
