With numerous informative Grand Canyon Ranger Programs available, it’s always good to know the favorites so you won’t miss the best ones like Cedar Ridge Hike or the Condor Talk.

What are the best ranger programs in Grand Canyon National Park?

Cedar Ridge Hike
One of the most popular Ranger Programs of all is this hike into the canyon on the South Kaibab Trail. It’s three miles and strenuous, but the stories of the canyon as you go help you discover the beauty of this gorgeous natural wonder.

  • Cost: Free

Condor Talk
On this popular Grand Canyon education program, offered at both the South and North Rim, you can learn all about the endangered California condor. Find out how it has been reintroduced to this part of Arizona as well as about the science that saved this magnificent bird.

  • Season: All year on the South Rim, from 15 May to 15 October on the North Rim
  • Location: 
    South Rim – in front of Lookout Studio
    North Rim – at Grand Canyon Lodge on the back porch
  • Cost: Free

Geology Talk
The geologic story of the Grand Canyon includes details about why this majestic canyon is so deep, why so wide and how it turned out to be so grand. A park ranger will help you learn all about the geology of the Grand Canyon and why it formed here and no where else.

  • Season: All year
  • Location: Yavapai Geology Museum
  • Cost: Free

Evening Program
On this fabulous Ranger Program (on either the South Rim or North Rim) you can enjoy sitting under the stars and hearing about the natural or cultural history of Grand Canyon. Always remember to dress warmly, and it is a good idea to bring a flashlight with you.

What’s Rockin’? - Grand Canyon Geology
This North Rim Ranger Program explains why you don’t have a Grand Canyon in your own backyard. After the ranger talk, you will get a little test of your skills and an optional short hike to Bright Angel Point.
