Holbrook (AZ) was and still is one of Arizona's existing frontier towns. There is so much information available to curious tourists about its incredible history, and travel there is very popular, especially with families who love to plan their kids' vacations around something much more educational than a movie theater.
When planning vacations in Arizona, Holbrook (AZ) is one town that still sits on the frontier as it has done for over a century. Travel in this area is very exciting, and most tourists relish the fact that they are able to enjoy the pleasures of such a remnant from the pioneering past.
When the town was established in the late 19th century, the majority of the people living there were ranchers, cowboys and railroaders. Lawlessness was quite common until a town courthouse was built to bring things under control in 1898. Then by the 1930's the majority of the frontiersmen who were left would travel the famous Route 66, the mother of all roads, heading west in search of their fortunes. In fact, it came to symbolize new hope for farmers during the Great Depression, and for soldiers returning home after the end of the Second World War.
In modern times, the town still has its fair share of explorers. Its incredible beauty and cultural diversity amongst its native aboriginals demand attention. Most tourists cannot resist the road side shops that are filled with Indian artwork and food. In fact, it is a centralized zone for the Apache, Hopi and Navajo nations.
With all its remaining historical buildings still virtually intact, the town is a visitor's dream of the Wild West. It is also close to many other outstanding attractions, such as the Petrified Forest National Park, White Apache Mountain, the Painted Desert, and many other must see spots.
