The location of an impressive volcanic cinder cone and lava flow, Strawberry Crater Wilderness in Arizona covers a remarkable 10,000 acres and offers a wide range of outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy.

One of the most unique aspects of the wilderness is that the volcanic features look relatively new even though they are quite old. Look closely and you'll see that the molten rock has scrapes from moving through the cracks in the surface of the ground over time. With so many rock formations to explore, a day can go by in an instant.

Across the wilderness you'll also find evidence of the ancient tribes that have left their mark on the area. The people who inhabited the wilderness region in the past were resourceful enough to live off the land and survive with very little from Mother Nature. They discovered ways to grow crops even as they land was still rather active.

Hiking through the wilderness is the perfect recreation if you ever visit the park, as this is the best way to truly experience everything up close and personal.

The wilderness is located about 20 miles north of the town of Flagstaff – you can gain access through Sunset Crater/Wupatki Road or FR's 546 and 779 off US 89.
