Grand Canyon Lodge

The Grand Canyon Lodge is a gem among the lodging in the national park system. The rustic building has remained mostly intact from when traveling to destination resorts first burgeoned thanks to traveling by railcar. Made with local stone and timber, the Grand Canyon Lodge is still a treasured and distinctive landmark.

With what the New York Times calls one of the world's most scenic restaurants, the Grand Canyon Lodge's Dining Room is one of the many highlights of lodging along the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

Constructed from 1927 to 1928, the Grand Canyon Lodge was designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood. Located along the less commercial rim of Grand Canyon National Park, the views from the Grand Canyon Lodge are close and spectacular.

The main lodge burned in a 1932 fire and was rebuilt from 1936 to 1937. The remaining stone foundation, piers, walls, and chimneys of the original building were salvaged and maintained the feel of the original building.

Large wrought-iron chandeliers and sconces give the Grand Canyon Lodge a luxurious and rustic feel. Painted and carved Indian symbols accent the interior and help define the building's ambiance. Overall, the Grand Canyon Lodge has changed very little since 1937 and is still the favored lodging on the north rim.

Inside the main lodge there is a registration lobby, dining room, recreation room, western saloon, sunroom and buffet room.
