El Tovar Hotel

For a remarkable experience in Grand Canyon National Park, a stay at the distinctive El Tovar Hotel is unforgettable. Located along the south rim of the Grand Canyon, El Tovar's design is a cross between a Swiss chalet and Norwegian villa. For over a century, the El Tovar Hotel has been a leading lodging facility in Grand Canyon National Park.

The elegant building is a registered national historic landmark. The plush and rustic lobby keeps visitors warm with a fireplace. Deer, elk and moose are mounted throughout the hotel.

Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein and Western author Zane Gray are some of the illustrious guests that have stayed at the El Tovar. Built in 1905 of Oregon pine logs and native stone, the hotel has a European hunting-lodge ambience. It's close proximity to activities along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon seals the deal on this luxury hotel. Early booking is recommended and reservations can be made as early as 13 months ahead of time.

With a recent renovation in 2005, El Tovar maintains its classic graceful style with modern conveniences.

Amenities at the hotel include a fine dining room (open for breakfast, lunch and dinner), lounge, gift shop, newsstand, concierge, turndown for the non-smoking rooms and room service.

El Tovar was originally slated to be called Bright Angel Tavern, but when it was completed three years after its commissioning in 1902 it was decided the moniker should honor Pedro de Tovar of the Coronado expedition; ergo the unexpected blending of Swiss, Norwegian and Spanish styles.
