North Rim Campground
The only developed camping along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is at the North Rim Campground, about one-and-a-half miles away from the Grand Canyon Lodge. The surrounding ponderosa pines provide shade and a soft sleeping platform. While the North Rim Campground has amazing views of the Grand Canyon, due to its remote location, it sees less traffic than some of the busier sites on the South Rim. That said, the site still often fills up, making reserving your campsite in advance well worth it.
Whether you plan on hiking down the popular Bright Angel Point or North Kaibab Trails or exploring one of the other beautiful trails found along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, the North Rim Campground is probably the place to stay.
The 87 camp sites all have scenic views (especially the canyon rim campsites, which are definitely worth the extra few dollars), shade from ponderosas and fire grills. (Be sure to bring your own wood or come prepared to purchase it at the general store, as no wood gathering is allowed.) The mellow one-and-a-half mile Transept Trail, which winds through aspen and pine stands, links the North Rim Campground with the nearby Grand Canyon Lodge. Showers, laundry, restrooms and water are available at the campground, and, while there is a dump station, no hook ups exist for water, electric or sewer. Pets are allowed, but must stay leashed.
North Rim Campground is open between mid-May and mid-October, and some campsites continue to be available after that time, depending on weather. Campsites are between $18 and $25. Reservations are accepted, although there is a fee for late cancellations.
