Flagstaff Arboretum

Flagstaff, Arizona, is located about one hundred and fifty miles outside Phoenix. Its great arboretum is the uppermost botanical gardening research center in the United States, reaching a height of over seven thousand feet. It is dotted with acres of pine trees in a beautiful and well-loved forest, covering about two hundred odd acres.

Not far from Phoenix, the Flagstaff Arboretum is not only Arizona's, but the United States' most elevated botanical gardens and research facility. It towers above the surrounding countryside, covering some two hundred acres of forest, attracting a multitude of curious visitors and scientists.

At about seven thousand feet above sea level, the arboretum provides visitors and researchers with the opportunity to comprehend the nature of the Ponderosa pine trees and other plant life that live high on the famous Colorado Plateau. It is so well-known that even the international community is now working with US researchers to study its unique and enchanting plant specimens.

A total of ten gardens adorn the main facility, including over two hundred herb species. Other attractions include the Square Foot, Courtyard, Shade, Butterfly, Mixed Conifer, Wildflower Meadow and Organic Vegetable gardens. Interesting demonstrations abound with talks about grass turfing and plant ground covering. It is also home to many endangered and rare plant species from across the Western United States.

It is open from April to October, from 9am to 5pm, with daily tours (inclusive with the admission costs), going from 11am to 1pm. It hosts a special raptor program each weekend from 12pm to 2pm.
