Fishing

Fishing in Northern Arizona can be an awesome experience for anglers of all ages. Freshwater flyfishing areas are numerous and can provide both novice and experienced fishermen with unparalleled fishing experiences that they're likely to remember for a lifetime. Add to that the awesome scenery, and you have the perfect fishing trip.

Anglers who head to Northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon area to enjoy a fishing holiday will not be disappointed with the wealth of freshwater flyfishing opportunities available in the region. From the clear waters of the Colorado River to a number of sparkling lakes, this portion of Arizona will please even the most seasoned fisherman.

Though the Colorado is a large and diverse river, the portions that run through Northern Arizona are a delight to fish, even for the unskilled angler. Of special interest is the Lees Ferry area, just above the Grand Canyon. Not only is the scenery here gorgeous, but the trout fishing is excellent. Whether you're fishing from a boat with a spinning rod or fly fishing near the banks, you're likely to catch some large rainbow trout, often up to 18 inches long and larger.

The lakes in Northern Arizona are equally as attractive to fly fishing fanatics. For example, Dogtown Lake – just a few miles from the town of Williams – is a popular stop and provides the chance to nab rainbow trout, largemouth bass, catfish, black crappie, and blue gills. Also check out Mormon Lake - the largest natural lake in Arizona, Upper and Lower Lake Mary, and picturesque Ashurst Lake, with the San Francisco Peaks on the horizon.
