Houseboats are fast becoming the alternative to cottages when planning a family vacation at Glen Canyon's Lake Powell, not far from Page (Arizona). These boats are like a home away from home, offering all the normal things expected plus the ability to move around the water, visit local hot spots and enjoy the wilderness, just for a minimal rental price.
Lake Powell, in Glen Canyon, is one of the best places for to find house boating holidays. Most boats can be rented from local companies for anything from a weekend to as many weeks that visitors may wish. In fact it is easy to reach, just short drive from Page, Arizona.
The lake is one hundred and eighty-six miles in length, and offers beaches, clear waters and outstanding scenic views. It is a perfect location for house boating, and gives access to a range of other activities such as kayaking, hiking and fishing. In fact, most people use the houseboats to travel to and from the lake's marinas, and find the best angling spots.
Renting a houseboat is fairly simple. There are three rentals offices at the major marinas, including the Wahweap, Bullfrog and Antelope Point marinas. Some of the best places to park these boats include Rainbow Bridge, and at the river entrance with a view of the dam. Tours are available that include complete lake exploration. Boats are fully fitted and stocked with air-conditioning, a VCR, microwave, beds, dining area, living area, bathrooms and kitchens. Each one also has its own deck.
Food and other supplies can be found at most of the marinas. Each one has fresh water supplies, restaurants, boat gas stations, fish cleaning facilities, picnic tables, repair stations, grocery stores and gift shops. The biggest is the Wahweap, which is very busy, so docking a houseboat can be tricky.
